Advanced Diploma in Creative & Media Level 3
The Diploma in Creative & Media is an exciting new qualification for those who want to learn about some of the UK’s most dynamic industries. You will gain knowledge, experience and skills that you will be able to apply directly to your future career, whichever of the creative industries you decide to go into. There are also opportunities to specialise later on in the programme.

What do I need to study the course?

Higher (Level 2) Diploma in 14-19 Creative & Media, First Diploma in Art & Design (Merit) or five GCSEs at grade C including Maths and English or equivalent
Good portfolio
Successful interview
Satisfactory reference

What will I study?

The great thing about the Diploma in Creative and Media is that it is work-related learning, so you get to practice real-life situations and learn from businesses in the industry as well as from your tutors. The College will work in partnership with businesses and universities to plan and provide creative and inventive activities so you can apply your knowledge and skills in a realistic context that cannot be replicated in the studio. The Diploma covers a range of disciplines including:

Film & TV
Photography
Graphic Design
Advertising
Multimedia
2D & 3D Design
Fashion
Textiles
Video
Animation

Whichever disciplines you choose to explore on the Diploma you will be taught how to apply them to real-life situations by following six units:

How to capture your ideas and turn them into reality
Presenting your work to an audience
How to interact with people who help develop you work
Working to a commissioned brief for a real business
Reflecting on your work and assessing its successes and areas for improvement
Investigation of historical and contemporary contexts in the creative and media arts, building on your research skills

You will study functional skills at Level 2 in Maths, English and ICT as well as undertake additional specialist learning (this could be a related A Level e.g. Photography, Film Studies etc.). You will also complete a project as part of your course.

How long is the course?
Two years, full-time

How will I be assessed?
Your course will include assessed coursework either individually or working in groups. You will be assessed for each unit and build up a portfolio. Two units are assessed externally.

What qualification will I gain?
Edexcel Advanced (Level 3) 14-19 Diploma in Creative and Media.

What can I do when I complete the course?
On successful completion of the course you may progress on to degree courses such as: Graphic Design, Multimedia, Advertising, Photography, Media, TV & Film, Animation, Games Design, Interactive Media, to name just a few. Universities and employers have worked together on the Diploma and many Universities have pledged that they will support & recognise the new Diplomas.
