The Advanced Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies is an exciting new qualification for those interested in a related career in the hair and beauty sectors. It will broaden your knowledge and skills in the related industries, including hair, beauty, nails and the spa industries. You will study industry related business management and events management in addition to exploring image and media within the hair and beauty sector. The Diploma does not qualify candidates as a practicing Hairdresser or Beautician, focusing instead on the skills and qualities necessary to pursue a related career within the hair and beauty sectors.

What do I need to study the course?

Five GCSEs at grade C (160 GCSE points) or equivalent, such as Higher Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies
Successful interview
Satisfactory reference

What will I study?

Exploring business management for hair & beauty
Events management for hair and beauty
Hair and beauty products and development
Cosmetic science
Business design and location
Business planning and finance
Media and image in the Hair and Beauty Industry
Exploring the world of spas
Possible specialist topics such as: creative hair design, hair additions, origins of massage, media make-up

You will also undertake a project unit as well as studying Functional Skills at level 2 in English, Maths and ICT and additional specialist learning (eg a related A Level).

How long is the course?
Two years, full-time

How will I be assessed?
The course will include assessed coursework either individually or working in groups. There are also 3 external examinations. You will be assessed for each unit and build up a portfolio. You will complete a period of work experience and complete a project on a related topic.

What qualification will I gain?
Advanced Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies

What can I do when I complete the course?
Your progression route after the diploma may be on to Higher Education to study Salon Management, Business Management or Media studies. You may also go into work related training or employment in one of the industries.
