This course examines four sectors: health, social care, young children and community justice. The course will provide you with a detailed insight into the many rewarding careers within these sectors. You will cover the principles and values underpinning all of the different professions. You will also learn how the different services work in unison and gain an understanding of the importance of putting the individual at the centre of those services.

What do I need to study the course?

Five GCSEs at grade C* (200 GCSE points) including maths and English
Successful Interview
Satisfactory reference
Satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)check

What will I study?
You will study a range of topics, including:

The sectors in context
Safeguarding and protecting individuals
Functional skills in English/ Maths/ ICT
An extended project
Additional Level 3 qualification for example an A Level/relevant BTEC National Award/CACHE Award in Childcare and Education

How long is the course?
Two years, full-time

How will I be assessed?
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course through a combination of internal assignments around case studies. Two units are externally assessed with short written answer papers.

What qualifications will I gain?
Advance Diploma in Society, Health and Development

What can I do when I complete the course?
The diploma provides a valid progression on to further study at higher Education or a direct route into employment. The Advanced diploma is suitable if you have a desire to work in any of the following areas:

Health and Social care – min roles such as social work, drug and alcohol worker, care manager, nurse and other allied professions.
Early Years - in roles such as an Early Years teacher, nursery manager, teaching assistant or youth and community worker.
Probation Service - youth and community work or the Prison Service.
