Advanced Diploma in IT Level 3
People studying the Diploma in Information Technology will learn how to come up with creative solutions, and to plan and deliver successful IT projects. The Diploma in Information Technology will open doors for all students in the technology-enabled world.
What do I need to study the course?
- Five GCSEs at grade C*, including Maths and English or First Diploma in a relevant subject at Merit or Intermediate GNVQ in IT at Merit grade.
- Successful interview
- Satisfactory reference
What will I study?
The Advanced Diploma in IT is built around three core themes:
- Business - how organisations work and the role technology can play
- People - how to work well with other people
- Technology - how to create technology solutions
You will study the following units:
- The potential of technology – how technology has affected society, organisations and individuals, with particular attention to the use of the internet and mobile communications
- Understanding Organisations – different types of businesses and sectors and the professions within them
- Professional Development - skills needed to operate effectively in a business environment
- Creating Technology Solutions - understanding of design principles, data analysis and programming basics
- Managing Technology Solutions - management of change and configure a small scale technology system for business use
- Multimedia and Digital Projects – evaluate different multimedia projects and create your own
- Making Projects Successful - gain some of the skills needed to become an effective Project Manager
In addition you will also do the following:
- A minimum of 10 days work related learning
- Personal learning and thinking skills – students are expected to develop these skills throughout their programme of study
- Functional skills in English, Maths and ICT at level 2
- Extended Project
- Learners will be also able to study additional courses which will add to the principal learning or broaden it by selecting from a wide range of options.
How long is the course?
Two years, full-time
How will I be assessed?
You will be continuously assessed throughout the course by a combination of 4 internally assessed portfolios and 3 externally assessed exams
What qualification will I gain?
Advanced Diploma in IT
What can I do when I complete the course?
Foundation Degree in New Media runs at Southport College or other university courses or further training and employment. Although it is expected that many students will eventually seek employment in the IT industry those who want to do something else can use all the skills they have learnt to find work in other industries.
